Behavior Challenges
After experiencing trauma, we feel unsafe long after the event itself is over. The resulting brain changes interfere with our ability regulate our emotions and behaviors.
Our practice is built on a platform of trauma-informed care. We operate under the assumption that every individual is doing the best they can and we need new tools to do better. Difficult emotions and harmful behaviors don't occur in a vacuum: they serve a function. Sometimes the behaviors or emotions that cause us the most pain are a result of our brain trying it's best to keep us safe. There's nothing "broken" about you. We just need to learn some new tools.
The Four "R's" of a Trauma Informed Approach:
Resisting Re-traumatization
If we're not aware and acting intentional around each individual's trauma, it's possible that we may intensify the symptoms of that trauma. The second step in working with trauma is putting proper safety precautions in place to ensure you're not making the problem worse.
Realization
Step 1 is education. We have to understand not only the impact of our own trauma, but how trauma effects our brain, body, and relationships. We'll work with you to map the impact of trauma on your life and help you understand the ways these symptoms developed.
Recognizing
All too often clients come to therapy feeling "broken", "defective", or "bad". Trauma cuts so deep it can feel that it affects the core of who we are. We can help you recognize and differentiate "who you are" from the impact of your pain.
Respond
Our therapists collaborate with you to develop a response system for these systems that is completely unique to you. If we keep repeating ineffective coping behaviors, we'll keep getting the same results. We'll help you develop a new coping system that works!
Why Does Trauma Informed Care Matter?
Trauma-informed care helps to rebuild the trust that was destroyed by previous abuse. It allows for the development of a transparent, collaborative relationship with a therapist invested in your healing. Trauma informed care allows survivors to feel empowered and in control of their own life. This is the key to understanding and compassion that all clients deserve.
How Do We Provide Trauma Informed Care?
Safety
Feeling safe is absolutely essential to heal from trauma. We've built our practice from the ground up on this principle. From our physical office space to the clinicians we have on staff, we prioritize your physical and emotional safety in every way.
Empowerment
When you work with us, you're in control. When experiencing trauma we can often feel out of control of our body or the things that are happening to us. You have a voice and choice throughout therapy. We might have the roadmap, but you're in the drivers seat
Transparency
Understanding what is happening what therapy it is, how it works, and why we're making the recommendations we're making is important. We strive to have clear communication, operate transparently, and collaborate on every decision regarding your care.
Trustworthiness
It can be difficult to trust again after experiencing trauma. We strive to build and maintain your trust through open communication and client-centered care. The relationship with your therapist is the key agent of change in this process. We prioritize building a relationship that is reliable, consistent, and unconditionally supportive.
How Can We Help?
Our therapists are trained and experienced in trauma-informed care. We offer individual therapy, group therapy, and occupational therapy to engage you as a whole-person while you work towards healing.

Trauma by it's very definition is terrifying and overwhelming! Our therapists are prepared to work with you in a way that considers your journey and puts you in control.
